Racing down the stretch in mud and rain, Proud Spell leads the field of ten three-year-olds in the Kentucky Oaks. She won by five lengths over runner-up Little Belle (#7, left.)

Proud Spell (right; green and orange silks) races in the Grade 2 Cotillion. With seven wins in eleven lifetime starts she was heavily favored to win the race but finished second to Seattle Smooth.
Proud Spell and Gabriel Saez, her regular jockey, return after the Cotillion, her final race of the year. She won four graded-stakes races at three, and was voted 2008 champion three-year-old filly.
After six months away from the track, Proud Spell returned in a March 12, 2009 allowance race at Oaklawn, finishing second. The following month she was retired and began a new career as a broodmare.
Her first foal--a filly sired by Indian Charlie--was born on March 29, 2010.
