Gretchen Jackson visits her colt at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center, where he underwent surgery to repair a leg that shattered during the running of the May 20th Preakness Stakes. Jackson brought Barbaro freshly-cut grass from her farm nearly every day of his eight-month stay at the hospital.
The door of Barbaro’s hospital stall is decorated with messages from concerned fans wishing him a full recovery. Despite the best efforts of his doctor, Barbaro could not be saved and was euthanized on January 29, 2007.
